Break In

1. Lock all doors and windows when leaving home unattended, even for a short while.
   
2. Do not hide keys under doormat, in a flowerpot or on top of the electricity meter box outside the house.
3. Change all locks when your house keys are lost or stolen.
4. Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.

What To Do When You Are Robbed

1. Remain calm. Do not resist if the culprit is armed.
2. Note the description of the culprit, e.g. the complexion, appearance, clothing, mannerism, movements and other physical details. This will help the police identify the robber later.
3. Take note of the culprit’s direction and means of escape. If a vehicle is used, record the registration number, colour and make of the vehicle. Also note the direction where the vehicle was seen heading towards.

Ways To Avoid Snatch Thieves

1. Never hang your handbag on your shoulder.
2. Never expose jewellery your are wearing.
3. Always go against traffic flow while walking on streets to see what’s in front.
4. Always hold or put your handbag under the armpit.

Credit Card

1. Sign the new card as soon as it arrives and destroy the old one to render it useless. Any cards that are still valid but are not used must be destroyed.
2. Pre-approved letters from financial institutions that come in the mail must be destroyed if you are not interested in applying for the card.

Rape

1. Do not be easily tempted by offers by strangers or casual acquaintances.
2. Always be careful with food or drinks that are offered by strangers. They may contain drugs or sexual stimulants.
3. To be aware of your children activities and ensure they are within their limits.
4. Avoid being alone in dark, quite and remote places. If your have to go make sure someone accompanies you. Always carry in your bag a personal alarm (whistle) or pepper spray.

Identity Theft

1. Carry only the cards you need. Minimise the identification information you carry in your wallet or purse.
2. Keep personal information in a safe place. If you employ outside help or are having service work done in your home, keep your personal information out of sight.

Motorcycle/Motor Vehicle Theft

1. Park your motorcycle where it can be easily seen.
2. Chain and use additional locks.
3. Craft your registration number at important parts of your vehicle.
4. Park in brightly lit places during night time.

1. Tell an adult that you can trust .
2. Write down what has been happening to you.
3. You have the right to be safe and secure.

Distract And Steal

1. Be on guard if a stranger draws your attention to the money you have supposed to have dropped. They may take the opportunity to steal your money.
2. Be alert when approached by people making accusation of the theft against you.

Pickpockets

1. Avoid carrying excess cash and displaying it in public. You can make use of the Internet or your credit card for purchases.
2. Sling your handbag in front of you so that you can keep an eye on it. Also make sure that it is properly fastened or zipped up.
3. Check your wallet or handbag immediately if someone jostles or bumps into you.
