History

It all began in the 19th Century where No. 1 Bukit Sebukor was used by the then government as an experimental station. Very surprisingly, the trees planted as far back as 1889 can still be found on the site.

Welcome to Putra Heights. Formerly known as No.1 Bukit Sebukor. Captivating. Yes that is the word to describe the site which is so rich in history.Passed on from one to the other, each owner of this site took great care of this place.

Salient Facts

1964: His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong found time during his recent state visit to Melaka to relax with a round of golf at Bukit Sebukor.

Other visitors include the Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman and the Minister for Finance, Mr. Tan Siew Sin.

No. 1 Bukit Sebukor was then passed on to Dunlop Malayan Estates Ltd. Now, Dunlop is a very familiar name to all of us.

They are the makers of a whole wide range of products from pillow and mattresses (remember Dunlopillo?) to high quality aviation materials.

Dunlop company was started way back in 1888 by a Scottish veterinarian by the name of John Boyd Dunlop. He was the founding father and the namesake of the Dunlop brand. He started it with a search to improve the performance and comfort of his son's bicycle without even realizing that one day he will change the course of transportation.

Remember the row of tress forming a sort of welcoming canopy just before arriving at the House on Hill?

It was probably the aura of the site, the feeling of calmness and serenity that envelopes a person upon entering the site that prompted Dunlop Malayan Estates to turn it into a private clubhouse for company officials.

However, to us Malaysian, perhaps the more important and dear fact to us was that No. 1 Bukit Sebukor was the where our first Prime Minister resided prior to his declaring Malaya's independence on 31 August 1957.

The proud and magnificent House on the Hill was incidentally used as the Independence Day operations centre. In addition to the mahagony trees, the first rubber tree in Melaka was also planted here.

Dunlop Malayan Estates subsequently passed on the ownership of No.1 Bukit Sebukor to Industrial Oxygen Incorporated Berhad, now known as IOI Corporation Berhad. A blue chip and highly reputable conglomerate. Just as John Boyd started the Dunlop Company with an objective, the Putra Heights development started with the need for an exclusive bungalow enclave in Melaka. And what better area to have Melaka's first freehold bungalow enclave than at No. 1 Bukit Sebukor…a site rich in history and past glory for all to share.
